Health Tip Of The Day |
If you are like me and have a very unhealthy addiction to treats like peppermint ice-cream (yummy) then you know how difficult it can be to stay away from those tasty treats. My first and foremost advise in this area is to try and use self motivation and discipline to refrain from eating foods that are not good for you or your abs. Having said this, the reality is that many people struggle with this. And this is one of the major reasons most people give up on abdominal exercises because no matter how hard you work out, if your diet is fattening then it will be very difficult for you to achieve the flat stomach or six pac abs. That means all the hard work in the gym goes to waste!
If self motivation and discipline do not work in keeping or staying away from eating "junk" food or just eating too much then you can consider some products to assist you in achieving these goals. There are many products on the market so you should make sure that you do your research before you purchase any of these weight loss and appetite suppressant supplements.
When it comes to supplements, I personally prefer natural supplements as opposed to synthetic supplements. Again it is important that you do your thorough research before you buy any supplements. I don't want to recommend the products I have tried but you can get an idea of what products are out there from the ones on this site. Please note that these are just a few of the many that are available today and again research and seek the advice of your physician before you begin a diet or exercise routine. What Does Your BMI Really Say About You?
The following information is compiled courtesy of the World Health Organization (WHO). Body mass index (BMI) is a simple index of weight-for-height that is commonly used in classifying overweight and obesity in adult populations and individuals. It is defined as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters (kg/m2).
The new WHO Child Growth Standards, launched in April 2006, include BMI charts for infants and young children up to age 5. However, measuring overweight and obesity in children aged 5 to 14 years is challenging because there is not a standard definition of childhood obesity applied worldwide. WHO is currently developing an international growth reference for school-age children and adolescents.
How can you reduce the burden of overweight and obesity?
- achieve energy balance and a healthy weight;
- limit energy intake from total fats and shift fat consumption away from saturated fats to unsaturated fats;
- increase consumption of fruit and vegetables, as well as legumes, whole grains and nuts;
- limit the intake of sugars; and
- increase physical activity - at least 30 minutes of regular, moderate-intensity activity on most days. More activity may be required for weight control.
A big BMI shortfall is that it does not distinguish between fat and muscle therefore it can wrongly classify muscular people as obese. A more accurate barometer of obesity is the measurement of body composition. Body composition distinguishes between muscle and fat, eliminating the inherent inaccuracy of the BMI measurement. Body composition measurement methods widely available include underwater weighing, x-ray body scan, skinfold callipers, and bioelectrical impedance among others.
